Maya’s Journey with PFP

PhD Candidate at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

In 2017, within the PFP program, Maya was a fellow at the Legislative Counsel of California. The Office of Legislative Counsel has operated in state government to assist the Legislature, the Governor, and other state officers by providing nonpartisan legal services supporting the legislative process. Within this tenour, Maya had the privilege to deepen my understanding of the US legal system, the legislative process, and local and federal courts. Living with the host family was a possibility to understand the outlook and lifestyle of American people.

Right after returning from the US, she changed her job and position. Maya shares that the experience gained through the fellowship helped her to become a visiting professional at the International Criminal Court in 2018. She became a Legal Advisor of the “Covid-19 Emergency Response Project” funded by the World Bank and a Project Manager at the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus.

“For me, PFP was a lifetime opportunity, the connections gained and information received through fellowship guide me through my work. I will always cherish this experience.”
